Snellville is a city where past, present and future are starting to mingle; a town that is in the nascent stages of a stunning downtown redevelopment that will turn a quiet, affluent suburb into a thriving live-work-play community.

Snellville was originally known as New London, a reference to two British men who built Snell & Sawyer, a popular dry goods store. Thomas Snell and James Sawyer had departed Londn for Georgia in 1874, ready to make their fortune in the New World. By 1879, they had opened their store, calling their community "Snellville" in advertisements. Snellville was officially chartered in 1923, and the population of this former homestead town is now more than 15,000. The community is known for its churches, schools, parks and family life.

A new city center is underway, with plans calling for shops, lofts, open space ,a new City Hall and public gathering areas.

Snellville's T.W. Briscoe Park hosts many festivals and events throughout the year, including May's Snellville Days; Easter's "Egg-stravaganza" the Snellville Fall Festival and the Holiday Lighting of the Tree.
